Welcome to another episode of the Luxury and Black Designer Podcast, your go-to source for all things luxury, style, and the vibrant intersection of culture and creativity. I'm your host, Shari Tisdale, and today we're diving deep into a special mid-week review where we honor the incredible historical contributions of African Americans in the fashion industry.
From groundbreaking designers to game-changing models, stylists, and innovators, we're highlighting the visionaries who've shaped not only the world of fashion, but the fabric of modern culture itself. Stay with us as we explore the trailblazers who have paved the way, pushing boundaries, creating legacies that still influence and inspire the fashion world today.
Let's get into it. Ann Lowe was the first black woman high fashion designer in America. She was designing for America's elite long before black designers were given credit, and she created Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding dress and dressed New York's high society in the 1920s through the 1960s. Despite racial barriers, she was one of the first black women to own a high-end boutique. We salute the contribution that opened the doors for African-American designers in the fashion industry. Ann Lowe.
